FAQS

What questions should I ask before purchasing a vehicle?

When we were looking for a vehicle in the mobile advertising industry, we had to do some serious research. As advertisers, we wanted to see greatness, something that we would be willing to place our own ads on.

These are some questions that helped us in the process of purchasing a scrolling billboard vehicle:

  • What do they know about the sales process, marketing and public relations aspects of this medium?
  • What affiliates do they have that are successful?
  • Do the owners of the company own, operate and sell advertising on personally owned vehicles?
  • Are customers using their mobile advertising vehicles for multiple advertising campaigns?
  • What are they doing to create a national network?
  • What are their clients saying about the company?
  • Is this company going to help me be a successful business owner or am I left high and dry?  If they do help, will I be charged extra for this?
  • What sales and marketing materials have they created that are responsible for successfully selling advertising on their vehicles?
  • Is the Chassis Gas or Diesel engine?
  • Which states is it against the law to have a scrolling sign on the front of any vehicle?
  • Do their vehicles conform to US Department of Transportation laws and legal to run in all states?
  • What is the standard delivery time?

Are you a franchise?

No, we’re not.  GoMobile Advertising operates on the principle that individual owners should have the flexibility and capability of running their business however they like.  We believe that by not charging franchise fees or requiring our affiliates to adhere to certain expectations, we can learn from them as they bring their own creativity to the table.  We also firmly believe in the power of a network, which is why we offer the framework for national campaigns and shared information among members.  While membership is included in the price of a vehicle and is strongly encouraged, participation is not required.  Find out more about the Network by clicking here.

Why GoMobile?

GoMobile Advertising is the only company in this industry that will sell you both the brains and the brawns.  The brawns, the vehicle itself, has been engineered to the highest of standards, designed and redesigned around the direct needs of our very own clients in the self-sustaining ad sales arm of GoMobile Advertising in Seattle, Washington.  The brains constitute the hundreds of pages of business materials, development, hands-on sales and vehicle training, conferences and conference calls, software updates, manuals, presentations, national contacts, and 24-hour customer service provided to all of our affiliates who purchase through us.  In addition, upon purchasing a vehicle through us you not only receive our support, but the support of a family of over 45 affiliates in North America, including the framework for national campaigns.

What makes your vehicles the best?

Not a utilitarian product that is designed to do one thing and one thing only, our vehicles are truly a multi-marketing media platform.  Your vehicle is your primary salesperson.  Would you send your best salesperson out on a national sales call in ripped jeans and a tank top?  Neither would we.  So ask yourself, if you are going to save a few dollars buying a vehicle that will be substandard, what is going to be your return on investment?  What will your clients perceive about your quality of service based on the quality of your vehicle?  If you’re going to be in business in the advertising world, which is all about perception, then you should have the best tools available to you to be successful.  Our vehicles provide all the tools to meet the needs of today’s advertising community.  See our features page for more information by clicking here.

Are all advertising vehicles DOT compliant?

Our vehicles are built and designed to operate in all 50 states, not just the state that we are based out of, and to comply with local and national regulations and DOT standards.  In fact, government regulations 49CFR part 568.6 and 49CFR part 567.5 require that all vehicles operating in the US comply with all safety regulations in place at the time of manufacture.  When you receive your truck it will have a DOT sticker that lists how the requirements are met in case of inspection.  We take every precaution to ensure that you will have the safest and hassle-free experience running advertising in your city

Can I talk to someone who already owns a truck? Can you provide any references?

Of course!  While we are not a franchise and don’t impose any requirements on our affiliates, the majority are usually happy to speak on our behalf.  Unlike some other billboard companies, our network structure actually provides an incentive for a larger network, because it increases the likelihood of brokering national campaigns, provides more resources, and helps validate the medium for blue-chip advertisers.  Feel free to call us for a list of references, but in the meantime, check out our testimonials page by clicking here.

Why have you chosen to only allow 10 billboards per side?

While our scrolling technology can handler far more than 10 billboards per side, we set our system to a maximum of 10 billboards because we have proven it to be the maximum number of advertisers that should share a single space for maximum exposure thus insuring the success of your advertisers.  With 10 billboards, a single billboard will be seen six minutes out of each hour.

I understand why only 10 billboards, but what if I wanted to daypart my advertising into multiple shifts?

Again, while our scrolling system can handle far more than 10 billboards per side, we have tested several advertising vehicles in our own market and found that regardless of the size of motors or technology, billboards can be finicky and the more billboards you place on any brand advertising vehicle will increase your chance of causing a system error.   While errors are rare, they do happen and can be fixed in seconds because of the ease of technology.  Our vehicles alert the driver to an error immediately so that a vehicle can be back on the road within minutes for your clients.

Why vinyl billboards rather than paper or laminated paper?

We have experimented with dozens of materials over the last two years, and have concluded that the specific type of vinyl that we use is best for handling long-term clients and campaigns.  The material is inexpensive, efficient, and most importantly durable; it holds up under the stress of day-to-day operations, contact with other billboards, and storage better than any other material available.  It also allows the best contrast between light and dark; paper tends to let more light through, even the darkest black.

Do you offer discounts on multiple trucks?

Yes, we do offer a multiple vehicle discount.  Through our experience, we don’t want to offer any incentive that encourages the purchase of more than 2 vehicles at a time, especially when first getting into this industry.  While it seems as though it would be to our short term advantage to encourage operators to purchase several vehicles initially, we know that they are likely to be more successful on one or two vehicles first.  We also know that our sucess hinges on the success of others. Why don’t you provide a printer with your truck?

Upon entering this business in Seattle we made the decision to outsource the printing of our own billboards.  Why?   Because upon entering a new business development with literally thousands of variables, the last thing we wanted to spend time with was quality control of print production, of which we knew nothing about. By outsourcing all of our printing needs to one of the largest printing companies in the United States, we and our affiliates have found that it has saved a tremendous amount of time (not to mention office space and labor force), freeing resources for sales and business development, our two primary profit generators. Ask yourself  this: would it be better to be spending time printing your billboards and ensuring they are accurate or would it be better for you to go to a single source provider and have those billboards printed to you to exacting standards and shipped to you directly so all you have to do is install them? The return on investment by outsourcing far outweighs the ability to print billboards overnight.

Why don’t you build your vehicle overseas?

While we have continually looked into purchasing overseas due to perceived savings in labor cost, our relationship with Motionadz in the United States is actually more efficient for several reasons.  Because of tariffs, legal issues and production setup charges working overseas only truly lowers the cost if the production orders are in a much larger quantity.  We also cut down on lead time without the risk of uncontrollable factors, allowing us to guarantee a delivery date from the time of purchase.  Furthermore, by building our vehicles in the US we are able to provide consistent software upgrades and technical support, and will personally fly a team out to your location to fix a problem if one arises.

What kind of financing do you offer?

We offer many finance companies that will compete for your business.  In fact, one of our finance companies (who has loaned us over four million dollars in vehicles sales) actually owns and operates a GoMobile vehicle in their own market. If you need a better testament, ask any of our competitors how many of their finance companies have bought a vehicle from them.

So I want to be a part of the mobile advertising business. What’s the next step?

Contact us at GoMobile Advertising, where you will be able to talk directly with people who live and breathe this business every day. Whether it is Chris Schuler, President, Mike Seifert, Vice President of Sales or any number of our employees, we are professionals in this business. We have been working at this for years and know what it takes to be successful.

How much of a deposit is required to start this business?

10-15% is standard, but we have multiple financing options available. If you’re approved for more than 90% financing, we can typically get started on your truck with the amount you choose to put down.

Will imperfect credit keep me from getting financing?

No. In today’s world there are plenty of qualified buyers who, for whatever reason, don’t have perfect credit. This is why we provide multiple financing sources with different financing packages. Our financiers http://www.gomobileadvehicles.com/finance.htm take into account your complete financial picture when making their decision. With less than perfect credit, you may be required to put down 15%, but we’ve rarely had any of our financiers ask for more than that. This puts your average total up-front investment at $15,000 leaving you more capital to invest in your new business.

How does an Operating Lease work?

An operating lease is considered “off balance sheet” finance, as a result it does not show up as debt on your company’s credit record. With an operating lease, the entire monthly lease payment can be taken as a write-off. The term is usually 60 months, and there is usually a 10% initial deposit, and a 10% residual buyout at term end. Because this 10% isn’t financed at the beginning, your monthly payments will be lower throughout the course of the lease term.

How does a Finance Loan work?

With a finance loan, you have ownership of the vehicle from the beginning. Usually at term-end, there is a $1.00 buyout. In general, payments are a bit higher because you finance more from the beginning. Only the interest on your monthly payments can be written off. The loan will show up as “debt” on your company’s balance sheet.

How are the scrolling billboards lighted?
Our billboards utilize our Premium NightWatch TM Backlighting. Located on the ceiling of the advertising cell, this high-efficiency lighting projects 250 watts to light up the night with your client’s advertisements.
How frequently do the scrolling billboards scroll?
You can set your ads to scroll at a time lapse of anywhere between 6 and 120 seconds, controlled via the computer console located in the advertising cell.
How many ads can your vehicle scroll?
Our vehicles scroll up to 30 ads – 10 on each side.
Why not more? With 10 billboards based on a 6 second exposure and a 4 second transition (10 seconds total) your clients message will be seen 20 times in a 1 hour period, 160 times in an 8 hour period.

By doubling your client’s exposure and ensuring their success they will keep coming back. The goal of an advertising campaign whether on TV, radio, print, or outdoor is based on reach and frequency; how many people can be reached and how many times. If your advertiser’s billboard is seen once every 5-6 minutes for 6 seconds...how effective will their reach and frequency be...by adopting the philosophy of “sell more ads to make more money” you are setting yourself up for failure.
What should I look for in a scrolling system?
You should look for reliability and durability. In just over four years of owning and operating multiple vehicles in Seattle, we have rarely needed to change a motor on our own scrolling systems. We’ve worked with the manufacturers to create a reliable system that as owners, we count on to be light on maintenance and worry.  After all, we’re as invested in this product as anyone else who buys. Most scrolling systems are rated in hours.  Motionadz’s Secure Scroll TM Advertising system is rated in years. From an operator and advertising perspective – this is reassurance.
How do the scrolling billboards fit together?
The ease of our QuickZip™ Ad-joining Method allows for the easy removal and addition of you client’s ads. It’s as easy as opening and closing a ZipLock bag.
What’s so great about your ad cell in comparison to others?
Quality, reliability, durability: this is what made the Motionadz vehicle rise to the top for us. When they said “all aluminum” they didn’t mean an aluminum frame with a thin aluminum sheath layer over the top; easily dented and scratched. When they showed us the scrolling system, they didn’t show the interior of the truck littered with exposed wiring and scrolling motors that you find in mall display signs. We were shown excellence in an advertising truck and we never turned back. Check out the quality on our vehicle specs page.
When can I get my ad vehicle?
In the U.S, after approval on financing, signing your contract and putting in your deposit, give us about 4 weeks and she’s all yours. If you don’t have a preference on color, ask us if we have any black vehicles on hand and you could start this business in a week.
What happens if there is a problem with my truck?
One of the many benefits of working with Motionadz and GoMobile is that the word ‘support’ goes beyond giving you a contract and a handshake. Motionadz engineers are available to you 24/7 on our customer tech support line. What’s even better is that if they can’t fix it for you over the phone, they’ll fly a team out to fix it in person. This is just a small part of what makes us better.
How many miles per gallon does the truck get?
A diesel engine will get you about 12-15 mpg. A gas engine: about 9-10.
Who produces the ads for the billboards and 3-D displays?
Banner Galaxy, an offshoot of Britten Banners, the leader in graphic printing technology, works exclusively with the U.S. GoMobile Advertising Network. However, if you’re from outside the U.S., there are many Britten affiliates around the world.
