Fresh off of the success of recent food truck-based, alternative campaigns for Yahoo! Studiosand Jack in the Box, Beyond Traditional was called upon by Qdoba Chicago and Amalgamated to commandeer a popular Chicago food truck and manage all logistics pertaining to the mobile aspect of the ‘Queso Quest.’ Beyond Traditional was tasked to outfit the truck with a full, branded wrap, and coordinate all staffing and scheduling for the city-wide mobile tour.
Captaining the truck was Chicago comedian Joey Dundale. His mission was to spread his love of Qdoba’s deliciously addictive three-cheese Queso to the Chicago masses. Over three weeks, Joey and the Queso truck made stops in six different cities in-and-around the Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area. While in Chicago, Joey visited some of the city’s most iconic landmarks-including Soldier Field, Chase Tower, Union Station and the Magnificent Mile.
The Queso Quest truck tour came to an end on Sept. 14; over the course of the campaign, 9,550 samples of chips and Queso, 5,425 Qdoba Chicago coupons and 2,100 menus were handed out to consumers.

This summer, Beyond Traditional partnered with Puget Sound Energy and Colehour + Cohen to create a mobile scrolling truck for PSE’s Rock the Bulb: The Re-Energize Tour.
The “Bulb Mobile” was a branded, double scrolling truck, packed-to-the-roof with energy efficient light bulbs. The truck ran on biodiesel fuel and showcased scrolling campaign advertisements as well as a list of tour dates.
The 10-week mobile truck tour launched in late June and focused on eight cities throughout the Puget Sound Area. Stops included local farmer’s markets, community events, parades and storefronts. Passersby were invited to learn more about improving the energy efficiency of their homes through use of energy-saving compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL); each visitor received a free ENERGY STAR-qualified CFL. The goal of the tour was to promote the Rock the Bulb events and encourageconsumers to make the switch from incandescent bulbs to CFL–which would save PSE costumers over $9 million and eliminate over 50 million pounds in greenhouse gas emissions over the lifespan of the bulbs.
Over 40,000 bulbs were handed out from the Bulb Mobile throughout the duration of the campaign. The campaign wrapped up in late August with the truck’s final stop in Burlington. To view more photos of the Bulb Mobile in action, visit www.facebook.com/ReEnergize.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Even if you don’t possess the requisite genetics to truly identify with this glorious occasion, you can take solace in the fact that on March 17th, everybody is Irish!
To help celebrate Irish culture, as well as feed some very hungry people, the Beyond Traditional team stopped by the St. Patty’s Day Dash last Sunday to launch the return of the Qdoba Free Taco Truck, a year-round, mobile advertising campaign for Qdoba Seattle. The truck, which became something of a sensation across Seattle last year, is back for another summer to distribute their free street tacos to events across Seattle.
Famished runners, and some less-motivated-but-still-awesome attendees, were delighted to receive free tacos, necklaces, coupons, and a chance to dress up in themed costumes and take a photo at our Photo Wall. Check out QdobaStreetTacos.com for more information, or Facebook.com/QdobaSeattle to see where the Taco Truck will venture next!

D.R. Horton is the largest home builder in America, and with over 20 communities in the Puget Sound area, the largest in Washington state as well And while the national trend for home builders is currently focused on cutting spending, D.R. Horton is cementing their place as a leader by unveiling an ad campaign designed to demonstrate stability nationally while connecting with locals through the primary message, “You Are Here. We Are Everywhere.”

As D.R. Horton’s agency of record, we took the iconic image of a pin and map to demonstrate their massive presence in the Puget Sound area. We produced media that utilized the traditional mediums of TV, radio, and billboard placements across Washington, as well as a mobile billboard truck and a custom-designed website to help consumers find one of the hundreds of Horton homes in the area. All of these efforts helped communicate to Washingtonians that their new home really is closer than they think.
The long term campaign which began in January will be managed by our team exclusively, with new TV, radio, and outdoor ads scheduled to roll out monthly. This new campaign provides further evidence that Beyond Traditional can produce excellent work in traditional mediums — TV, radio, print, etc. — in addition to the creative, non-traditional work that has made us an industry name.

SEATTLE – Early September, school was back in sesh’ and a whole new crop of fresh fall finds hit the racks at Goodwill just in time for the new harvest.
To celebrate, Beyond Traditional designed and built a custom mobile showcase featuring dress-forms donned in unique digs, presented in and outside of a real dorm room furnished with real Goodwill finds.
The truck took to the streets and cobblestone nooks and crannies of Seattle’s college campuses, Greek rows, and popular hangouts, schooling clueless freshmen on why their neighborhood Goodwill is the best place for quality previously loved goods.
Beyond Traditional used scrolling billboards to highlight “your missing item” (they literally cut it out of the billboard) and featured a map showing the surprisingly close distance between Seattle colleges and respective nearby Goodwill locations. Trained Brand Ambassadors distributed 5,000 coupons, many of which were promptly brought directly to the store for redemption.
This campaign is one of over a dozen unique, nontraditional executions Beyond Traditional has designed for Goodwill in its four-year partnership. Beyond Traditional was proud to recently sponsor Goodwill’s Glitter Gala this month for the third year in a row, which raised over $250,000 for its Job Training and Education programs.

You’ve probably heard the controversy over bottled water companies that are simply bottling tap water and charging something like a 2000% premium to consumers.
Rainier Ice is not one of those companies.
Rainier Ice is a premium all-natural Artesian water. It rises from a pure, protected aquifer fed by pristine Cascade Mountain rain and snow. No tap water, no processed spring water. A simple and rare delicacy found in few places in the world.
Needless to say, we’re believers. Rainier Ice brought us a case of water to try on our own and turns out their “It’s the Taste” tagline is unbelievably accurate – the bottles disappeared in something like 24 hours.
So, when we were asked by Rainier Ice to increase brand awareness of their product line, we knew that people had to try the water itself to experience the difference. So, we unleashed a team of Brand Ambassadors, trained on the differences between Rainier Ice Artesian water and the aforementioned glorified tap water companies, on Seattle’s huge Seafair weekend festivities. While teams handed out bottled water, our supersized 10′×22′ Great White A-Frame Mobile Billboard Truck canvassed the area to create more brand awareness and connect the launch. Throughout the day, we distributed over 1,400 bottles and made a lot of reconsider their favorite bottled water company…

Dear Friends, Affiliates and Colleagues,
It has come to our attention that a campaign is coming to the Northwest by way of Las Vegas, NV promoting an adult entertainment establishment on a mobile billboard vehicle. Although we respect the right to freedom of expression, we at GoMobile want to make it impeccably clear to our clients as well as the public that we are in no way affiliated with this campaign, its vehicle, or the company behind it. The vehicle is not a GoMobile Network vehicle, and it is in no way associated with GoMobile and any of its 60 affiliate markets across the country.
For over four years we have been no strangers to pushing the envelope with our signature glass-walled 3D mobile showroom vehicles, however we at GoMobile are held by a strong set of uncompromising moral standards that dictate what we put in front of the public. We will continue to be led by these morals in the future in everything we do, and thank you for your continued support of GoMobile, our clients, and our work!
Sincerely,
Chris Schuler
President, GoMobile

You may be able to save even more on a brand new mobile advertising truck from GoMobile Ad Vehicles. Tax incentives for 2009 could help you start this business with the capital you need.
U.S. Tax Code Offers Opportunity for up to $250,000 Tax Deduction for Work Truck Purchases.
Internal Revenue Code, Section 179, may allow an immediate deduction of the cost of certain capital machinery and equipment, including work trucks.
Logan Township, N.J. — According to the U.S. Internal Revenue Code (IRC), Section 179, a taxpayer may elect to treat the cost of any qualifying property as an expense, rather than a depreciable capital asset. Using this tax code provision, business owners may be able to deduct the full purchase cost of a qualifying work truck (GVWR = 14,000 lb. or more), up to the $250,000 limit applicable to tax years 2008 and 2009. The deduction must be taken in the year the vehicle is placed in service. For tax year 2010, the maximum deduction is scheduled to revert to the 2007-level of $125,000.
Time is short, but the potential benefit is large. Those considering the purchase of a new commercial truck should certainly consider the tax implications of buying this year versus postponing the purchase until next year or later.
IRC Section 179 contains a number of limitations and provisions that may affect the extent to which any business can deduct any specific purchase. Consequently, business owners should consult their own tax advisers and accountants regarding their individual situation and the applicability of IRC 179 to it.

Not all individuals qualify and you’ll need to do your due diligence. Please see section179.org for more on how you could reap the benefits of this great offer!
